Problems That May Occur When Powder Coating Wheels

1) Contaminated surface

Most metal objects only need to be cleaned before dusting them off. Like all surface treatments, powder coating works best on surfaces without traces of oil, grease, or dirt. Dirt tends to cause poor coating performance. You can also look for rim powder coating in Long island.

2) Wheels for wheel balance

Prior to powder coating of wheels, the wheels must be removed from attachments that were not part of the original wheel structure. This includes the valve, sticker and center badge, as well as ballast. It is not always possible to place the balancing load in exactly the same place on the finished bicycle.

3) Dust the wheel brake

The brake drum continuously bleeds dust as the pads wear. Brake dust burns small holes and leaves a trail on your alloy in the early stages of corrosion. The combination with dirt and road water causes waste of light wheels.

4) Wheel oxidation

Pitting is a symptom of this problem with alloying. In severe cases, special care is required to restore the rim before the powder coating can be applied. The breakdown starts when the clear coating applied in the factory is damaged.

5) Excessive damage

Sometimes wheels are shipped to be powder coated which is so damaged that it is unsafe for road use. They often have wheels that curl in impact with the curb. There is a real risk that tires will not remain grainy after powder coating due to the degree of damage.
